FEBRUARY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING:

The Board of Directors will be meeting Monday, February 26, 2024, at these times:

Executive Session – 6:30 pm (by invitation only).

General Session – 7:15 pm (all homeowners welcome to attend).

POOL CLOSURE:

The pool area will be closed from Monday, 02/26/24 through Thursday, 02/29/24 due to equipment replacement at 716 building-Santee Court.

HOME MAINTENANCE TIPS:

  • Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly. Change the batteries in these items as part of your routine when you change the clocks in the fall and spring.
  • Change the filters in your home at intervals recommended by your HVAC manufacturer, especially if you have allergies or pets. A dirty filter means an inefficient system. Also arrange for season checks on your HVAC system to avoid emergency repairs.
  • Frequently check the water supply hose to your washing machine, which can leak and cause expensive damage.
  • Is your toilet running or your faucet leaking? Toilets that run and faucets that leak when not in use are wasting your water.
  • Chean around the vents and coils underneath and behind your refrigerator to support its efficiency.
  • Replace bulbs in fixtures. Consider using energy efficient light bulbs to help save you money over the years.
  • Check the windows. Clean interior of windows and screens, and replace any damaged seals or weather stripping.
  • Clean out storage. If you have a storage unit, clean out and store any seasonal gear/items. Consider donating unused items.

WATER SHUT-OFF REMINDER:

In order to address plumbing items in buildings 738, 743, and 746, a COMPLETE water shut off has been scheduled for next WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2024, between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm. Please note that this will affect both HOT and COLD water.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL MAINTENANCE TIPS:

Weekly:   The garbage disposal should be flushed with cold water. Fill the sink with clean cold water, pull the drain stop and allow the water to drain. The flushing action of the water leaving the sink through the drain should purge the drain line of any loose food waste.

Monthly:   Empty a tray of ice cubes into the sink and turn on the garbage disposal to grind up the ice cubes. After the ice cubes are ground into a slushy mixture, rinse with a light stream of cold water. The ground ice may clog the drain line and water will back up into the sink. However, after a few minutes, the ice will melt away and the water will drain. Grinding ice helps to sharpen the shredding blades and remove the accumulation of food waste.

Quarterly:   Place a half cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar in the grind chamber. Allow the mixture to foam and fizz while you boil a pot of water. Once the water has boiled, pour it down the drain. In lieu of baking soda and vinegar, you can also mix one gallon of water with one tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach and slowly pour the mixture into the grind chamber. Allow it to sit for several minutes and then flush with cold water. These mixtures will sanitize the garbage disposal and remove any foul odor. If you would prefer to not experience the smell of bleach or vinegar emanating from the garbage disposal, you can freshen the smell with citrus rinds. Lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit rinds can be placed in the garbage disposal and ground-up to provide a fresh citrus scent.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • It is officially called Washington’s Birthday by the federal government.
  • Many states celebrate Washington’s Birthday while other states officially call it President’s Day. Delaware does not celebrate this holiday.

Be Kind To Your Pipes:

  • Do NOT pour grease products down the sink drains or into toilets. Grease products include meat fats, lard, cooking oil, shortening, butter, margarine, sauces, dairy products, etc.
  • Do NOT put fibrous food wastes down the disposal, including, but not limited to, potato peels, banana peels, and celery. Do NOT put coffee grounds, egg shells, rice or pasta down the sink drains.
  • Place baskets/strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids and empty them into the trash can for disposal.
  • Only flush toilet paper down the toilet. Do NOT flush non-disposable and disposable wipes (even ones that are “flushable” or “biodegradable”), cotton swabs, dental floss, wrappers, feminine hygiene products, diapers, paper towels/tissues, cigarette butts, medications, along with other heavy products. Such items should be placed in the trash to avoid serious clogs and environmental damage.

Motorcycle & Scooter Registration

Residents that utilize the common area motorcycle/scooter parking spaces in subterranean garage must register their vehicle with Management. If you need to register your motorcycle/scooter, please contract Management and the registration form will be sent to you.

Smoking:

  • Smoking-related issues can have a significant impact on the well-being and enjoyment of others within the community.
  • Please refrain from smoking near doors, windows, or any other areas where smoke may easily enter shared spaces.
  • To ensure smoke is not emanating outside of your unit, we recommend that you install weather stripping around the door(s), use air purifiers, or any other appropriate measures within your unit.

Your understanding and compliance with these rules and regulations contribute to fostering a harmonious living space for everyone, and are greatly appreciated.

Bike Cage Update:

Have you identified your bicycle recently? If not, please be sure to email Santee Village confirming bike cage occupancy. Should you need access, please contact Management to coordinate.

Kitchen Drain Reminder

This is a friendly reminder for all residents to please place solid food waste (including rice, pasta, coffee grounds, used cooking oil, etc.) in your kitchen trash can and not your garbage disposal. Over time, these items can build up in the drain and cause clogs. Thank you.

New Year Cleaning?

Getting rid of clutter doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process. Try these tips,

  • Toss 10: Grab a trash bag. Find ten items in your home that you no longer need or want and put them in the bag. Toss the bag in the trash or put it in your donation box.
  • Clear a Surface: Find at least one cluttered surface, such as a coffee table or dresser top, and completely clear it of all clutter, swiftly discarding any trash.
  • Pick through a junk drawer: Whatever you can’t identify or is clearly junk (meaning you’ll never use it) get tossed.
  • Throw away junk mail: Quickly go through your pile of mail and dispose of anything that is clearly junk mail.
  • Put things away: While carrying a large shopping bag, go through your home and put in the bag at least eight things that are not in their correct place. Then, deliver those items to their proper homes.
