HOLIDAY FUND

A big thank you to all the residents who contributed to this fund, and to everyone for giving us the opportunity to serve you this year!

DID YOU KNOW?

Hanukkah:

  • After the Maccabees’ victory over the Greeks, only enough oil would last for one day in the Temple. However, the oil miraculously burned for eight days. Therefore, for centuries, the Jewish people have been lighting a menorah to commemorate this miracle.
  • Hanukkah dishes are fried for a reason. People fry their food in oil for Hanukkah as a symbol for the miracle oil that burned for eight nights straight.
  • Hanukkah is mentioned in the New Testament, in which Jesus attends a “Feast of Dedication”.

Kawanza:

  • Kawanza is based on 7 principles known as Nguzo Saba. They are Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (faith).
  • Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the seven principles. A candle is lit on the Kinara each day to represent that principle.
  • Kwanzaa emphasizes the importance of family and community. Families come together to celebrate on their shared values and heritage.

WISHING YOU PEACE AND HAPPINESS IN THIS FESTIVE SEASON!
