INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT MOTHER’S DAY:
- “Ma” is Universal: The word for mother in many languages starts with “m” because that sound is often the easiest for infants to produce.
- Most Phone Calls: More phone calls are made on Mother’s Day than any other day of the year, with approximately 122 million calls in the U.S.
- The Flower Tradition: Carnations are the official flower, popularized by Jarvis. Pink/red carnations symbolize mothers who are alive; white carnations represent those who have passed, serving as a poignant reminder of their everlasting presence in our hearts.
- Late Card Buying: Approximately 65% of all Mother’s Day greeting cards are purchased in the final five days before the holiday.
- Mother’s Day is for all moms of every kind: From birth moms to stepmoms, grandmothers, aunts, adoptive moms, fur moms, and other motherly figures who play important roles in our lives, Mother’s Day is a day to honor their tireless devotion and celebrate the diverse forms of motherhood that shape our lives.
